Silicone versus Saline Breast Implants

There are several surgical options for the placement of your breast implants. The four types of incisions that are typically used are:

  • 1. Inframammary Approach - Breast Augmentation
  • 2. Peri-areolar Approach - Breast Augmentation
  • 3. Transaxillary Breast Augmentation
  • 4. Transumbilical Breast Augmentation – TUBA

Inframammary Approach – Breast Augmentation

This is the most common utilized incision for breast augmentation. With the inframammary approach, an incision is made under the breast between 4-5 cm in length to gain access to the breast and create a pocket above or below the muscle. The scar hides under the breast and fades with time.

Peri-Areolar Approach  - Breast Augmentation

This is the most common utilized incision for breast augmentation. With the inframammary approach, an incision is made under the breast between 4-5 cm in length to gain access to the breast and create a pocket above or below the muscle. The scar hides under the breast and fades with time.

Endoscopic Transaxillary Breast Augmentation

Minimally Invasive Breast Augmentation. Small incisions are made within the armpit and a camera is employed to help create a precise pocket below the muscle. There are NO scars on the breasts and, thus, they are virtually invisible to most people. Some plastic surgeons perform this procedure without a camera and leave patients with implants that sit too high. Make sure you consult with a plastic surgeon qualified in endoscopic breast augmentation (i.e. using a tiny camera). Consult with Dr. Desai, Dr. Falluco, or Dr. Parks by calling (904)-262-3372 to learn more about the benefits of this technique.

TUBA – Transumbilical Breast Augmentation

An incision in made within the belly button also known as the umbilicus to place saline breast implants. Silicone breast implants cannot be used with the TUBA technique. Although popularized by the media, this procedure has no real benefits compared to the other approaches and has more risks and complications.
